The successful candidate will oversee and manage the SONAR Engineering Group within the Hardware Engineering Department at Undersea Systems.

The primary functions of this role are to provide:

  • Functional management of 12 engineers

  • Technical oversightand execution leadership in the design, analysis, build and test of complex SONAR systems hardware

  • Proposal and white paper development for internal, external, new or existing SONAR-related projects

  • Oversight and control of on-going SONAR-related engineering special projects and IR&D

  • Support for management of the larger Hardware Engineering Department including manpower/resource utilization, employee engagement and training.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in multi-disciplinary hardware design and analysis, an understanding of design for manufacturing practices, production engineering, developing engineering process and procedures and an understanding of engineering’s role for supporting small to medium production quantities.

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated skills/experience in the following multi-disciplined areas:

  • Electronics design, analysis, procurement, fabrication and test

  • Firmware design, development, integration and test

  • Signal processing and beamforming

  • SONAR array design, analysis, fabrication and test

  • Transduction materials, passive materials and multi-physics finite element analysis (FEA)

  • Mechanical design (including electronics packaging), structural and thermal analysis, fabrication and assembly

A degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Materials, Marine or Ocean Engineering, or a related field with 9 years of experience and a working understanding of common engineering design and analytical tools is required.Example tools include PSpice, DxDesigner/Expedition, Unigraphics, MATLAB, and ANSYS/COMSOL

The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast passed environment ranging from research and development to legacy products and production support.

Basic Qualifications:

- BS with 9 years experience

- US citizen, an Interim Secret clearance to start and the ability and willingness to obtain a TS/SSBI and pass a polygraph.

- Proficiency in using common engineering design, production and office tools (including NX, TeamCenter, FEA, MS Office,

PDM systems) and a working understanding of ANSI Y14.1.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Underwater design and in depth manufacturing experience; a current TS/SSBI/SCI clearance.
