Lockheed Martin Crew Chief B, Pax River, 1st shift in Patuxent River, Maryland
Function: • Ensure the airworthiness of multi-engine and advanced types of aircraft by planning, directing, and carrying out their servicing, overhaul, and repair at home plants and in foreign and domestic facilities or customers.
Typical Responsibilities: • Prepare helicopters for flight by performing all necessary final checks adjustments and installations. • Direct crew to ensure completion of all required tasks to prepare aircraft for flight. • Carry full responsibility for the movement of assigned aircraft through acceptance program, for condition of aircraft before presentation to pre-flight inspection, and for the resolution of all inspection pre-flight discrepancies and all pilot discrepancies. • Conduct engine run-up and engage rotor to make operational check of controls, clutch, engine operating temperatures and pressures, etc. and be responsible for all necessary adjustments. • Prepare aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks. • Assist in performing special inspections. • Performing limited maintenance operational checks and assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting aircraft subsystems using special tools and equipment as required. • Uses and performs operator maintenance on tools, special tools and aircraft group support. • Check fuel, oil, hydraulic, electrical, lubrication and radio systems. • Track, adjust and balance rotor blades and balance heads. • Evaluates maintenance operations and facilities for compliance with directives, technical manuals, work standards, safety procedures, and operational policies. • Remove, adjust, and/or replace any component of the helicopter such as landing gear, rotor head, gear box, engine tail cone, etc. • Responsible for the loading and unloading of helicopter for light and heavy hover. • Move aircraft about for various tests. • Check and calibrate instruments. • Direct, assist and instruct mechanics in accordance with work requirements. • Under direction of Engineering personnel provide support to experimental, development, and functional flights to test or demonstrate the integrity of the aircraft, systems, missions and/or project; be responsible for maintenance and operation of aircraft during tie-down tests. • Service aircraft away from plant. • Perform, as necessary, various fabrication and assembly operations related to service, maintenance and repair functions. • Consult supervisor regarding any unusual shop assignments as required by workloads or emergency conditions. • As required segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices to maintain cleanliness of assigned areas and comply with all EH&S procedures.
Basic Qualifications • Requires 4 to 5 years of experience. • Requires well-rounded knowledge of operation and structure of all model helicopters, engines, accessories, and electrical and hydraulic systems. • Work from complicated blueprints and specifications and use a variety of precision measuring and testing instruments and gauges. • Requires knowledge of, and familiarity with, inspection practices, sheet metal fabrication and hand signals (Air Force Regulations 62-10). • Equivalent to 2 years high school plus 2 to 3 years trades training and A&P license. • Must maintain any current certification(s) as required.
Additional Information: This position requires an A&P license. Successful candidate must acquire an A&P license within 90 days of conditional offer acceptance. Failure to obtain an A&P license will result in withdrawal of the conditional offer.
Work will be performed at the customer's facility in Pax River, MD and is dependent upon the CH-53K helicopter test program. The program began operations in Pax River in Q2 2017 and is planned to end in Q3 2019*. The individual may initially begin this assignment working at the Development Flight Center in Jupiter, FL for training or until additional aircraft transition to Pax River.
While working at Pax River, Sikorsky employees must follow operating procedures as established by the customer which include: - Must be a US citizen. - Must currently have and/or be capable of obtaining a security clearance. - Must currently have or be capable of successfully completing an NCIC criminal background check to access Pax NAS. - Must have a valid photo ID (driver's license + social security card or birth certificate OR US passport). - Must have valid driver's license/vehicle insurance to drive on base at Pax NAS. - In addition to the standard Sikorsky personal protective equipment (PPE), all maintenance personnel must be able to wear steel toe safety shoes and wear long pants. Additionally, cranials must be worn outside while working above four feet.
Other: - First shift position, but must be willing to work any shift.
