Project Support Specialist I

General: This position will perform clerical, shipping, receiving, and other administrative functions supporting the Navy Calibrations Laboratory, Patuxent River, Maryland.


  • Performs clerical and physical tasks in connection with shipping goods from the Calibrations Lab and receiving incoming shipments from technical customers. In performing day-to-day, routine tasks, follows established guidelines. In handling unusual non-routine problems, receives specific guidance from supervisor or other officials. May direct and coordinate the activities of other workers engaged in handling goods to be shipped or being received.

  • Shipping duties typically involve the following: Verifying that orders are accurately filled by comparing items and quantities of goods gathered for shipment against documents; insuring that shipments are properly packaged, identified with shipping information, and preparing and keeping records of goods shipped, including manifests and bills of lading.

  • Receiving duties typically involve the following: Verifying the correctness of incoming shipments by comparing items and quantities unloaded against bills of lading, invoices, manifests, storage receipts, or other records; checking for damaged goods; insuring that goods are appropriately identified for routing to departments within the establishment; preparing and keeping records of goods received, including assigning meter cards to each piece of equipment received.

  • Other administrative duties include documentation completion, filing, data entry, and keeping the library current and organized.

  • May perform some delivery and pickup of equipment to customers on and off station.

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience performing related functions - experience in metrology standards and acquisition desired, but not required.

  • Applicant must be a self-starter and be able to use initiative to undertake activities with minimal supervision

  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is highly desired.

  • Must have strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent organizational skills are a must.

  • Individual must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent Work Conditions: Conditions will vary. Most work performed in enclosed buildings. Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching. Must be capable of lifting 50, 50-100 lbs. assisted by other employees.Possess a valid driver’s license.U S Citizenship required and ability to obtain a US DoD Interim Secret Security clearance within 45 days of hire, granted a Secret clearance, and ability to maintain clearance throughout employment.
